LUIS ERAZO, MAKER EXTRAORDINAIRE.
i am Luis Erazo, owner of NIKNAX WORKSHOP. i like to make. i’m curious about how the world works. what are the elements that shape how we move/live/interact/exist? can anyone (me) learn to make anything they dream and conceive?
my design studio exists as a means to explore those questions, materials, and processes. the art seen here reflects my skills in architecture, glassblowing, metal smithing, graphic design, carpentry, plaster casting, and digital fabrication.
from wood display cases and cutting boards to pendant lamps and jewelry, no project is out of reach of my skill set. if you desire custom work or have questions about my practice, contact me here.

Grace and I had a drawing date night. We were supposed to draw one another and this is what I ended up with 😬
Which is obviously not what Grace looks like cause she’s fine fine 🔥 (see pic 2, the cover of her upcoming mixtape) This might be her in her 90s when she’s opened her third eye and become a sorceress. I emblazoned her with stylized letter “G” on her face (with a gold gel pen cause I’m fancy)

METAL FACE rendered in wood
I love MF DOOM; his verses, his beats, his mantra. I also love woodworking. So I combined the two and created the first of a few MF DOOM cutting boards and rolling trays. The woods: curly Maple, Wenge, Purple Heart.
I have tons of ideas but few see the light of day. This project originated from a sketch back in 2015. When an idea keep resurfacing, you know it’s worth the effort. SWIPE TO SEE THE PROJECT IN REVERSE.
At some point I’ll try and monetize these, but at my own glacial pace. Keep you eyes peeled for a release on NiknaxWorkshop.com

☁️What goes into making jewelry? Quite a lot. Measurements, calculations, design principles, visual balance, an understanding of process, and a skilled team. 🏵️
I’m currently working on a small collection using stones from @garrettstraderglass A sneak peak coming soon. 🥸
For now, take a peek at a project with @shreddingallveils A client brought in a smashed up ring that needed to be rebuilt. She wanted to salvage the white gold focal. 🌸Let me tell ya, creating a 3d design using a hand fabricated object is tough! You are using a rigid mathematical tool to recreate the beautiful imprecision of hand.
Anyway, I persevered! Ella did a badass job casting, setting, lasering, and voila! What a great jeweler she is 🫡 and, since we got to make it again, we were able to make it stronger, designing it with our knowledge of how to make long lasting jewelry. 🐦🔥

a custom illustration for @veronicurr capturing the essence of her two cats, Wes and Sassy.
Sassy loves playing with bags and hiding in them (very proud of drawing the iconic Thank You bag). Wes loves those catfishy treats.

it’s quite difficult to nail down the right color gradient. my forays into color and its theory have been minimal so i’m having fun figuring out the palettes. the bigger challenge is making sure the colors print accurately; the screen and print colors vary by a large margin

🤖🎃The FACES🤡👹
From doodles on margins of pages to full fledged art pieces ••• these faces are fun caricatures, inspired by art we made as kids, dipping thumbs in paint and finger painting ••• inspired by a desire to create a print using modern methods [lazzzersss] and old tech [mishima] ••• an art print that incorporates the frame ••• playfully colorful and shiny like candy

〰️new phase 〰️
a continuation of my practice of making patterns, rigorous repetition, line making. i am drawn to composing figures and scenes, but in a circuitous and abstract way. the drawing plans itself as I move my pen.
➿it’s cathartic, restful, meditative. i get to sit still and quiet the monkey mind. it’s very fun and i never know how exactly the image will look. it’s a letting go of sorts ➿

A quick snapshot of the market I participated in early April. It was a fun event, different from most markets in that it had ambience and a community feel. Felt like chillin in your living room. 😎
For years, I’ve wanted to work with acrylic and a Mishima technique to bring some of my sketches to life. And I’ve done just that! I’ve taken color blocks in acrylic and overlayed them with line work done in paint!
I also tackled the conundrum of the selling a print sans a frame. In these acrylic prints, I’ve created a framed piece of art, ready to be displayed right away. The bright and shiny brass Chicago screws accent the glossy acrylic 👊
Oh! I almost forgot to mention the happy accident of discovering how these pieces become fluorescent when downlit. I was showing Grace one of the pieces under our stove light and then we both noticed how it glowed. So, in time for the show, I whipped up that frame seen in the video. A happy accident and discovery!
I’m off to make some more of these playful creations. I hope to have them listen on my site. I’m hoping better still to have a whole army of them displayed in a gallery show. Here’s to hoping 😄

A commemorative pendant celebrating Oregon Sunstone and the environment it came from: the desert. Garrett’s grandpa mined the stone from central Oregon and he wanted an element in the pendant to allude to the stone’s origin.
I make a lot of art, it just spews forth. But my art takes on a more meaningful dimension when it has a higher purpose. I’m thankful to Garrett for allowing me to work with such a precious memento.
This commissioned piece is also meaningful to me for other reasons. It spurred me to create my own casting machine. It was my first solo casting. It was my first design incorporating a stone. And in a full circle moment, I cast this piece (in part) using silver that I had from my first ever casting experience back in 2015 (when I first became awed and entranced with casting)!
Moreover, @ben.loeliger was there to help (in so many ways). He was also in the casting class with me almost 10 years ago. As Stephen King would say: “Ka is a wheel: it always comes round to the same place again”.
I often don’t know how to interact online, what to share, all that jazz. But I figured I’d document this moment.
As always, reach out with curiosities, questions, and requests!
